Founded in 1914, the University of Pittsburgh Treble Choral Ensemble brings together treble voices from all disciplines of the University community. This semester’s choir is made up of 62 students whose majors include: Anthropology, Biology, Bioengineering, Biological Sciences, Business, Early Education, Communications, Communication Science and Disorders, Engineering, English Writing, English Literature, Environmental Science, Film Studies, Linguistics, Marketing, Mathematics, Music Perfomance, Neuroscience, Nursing, Pharmacy, Political Science, Psychology, Rehabilitation Science, Theater Arts, and Supply Chain Management.
Members rehearse four hours a week in class and may receive one college credit each semester for their participation in this co-curricular activity. The ensemble performs repertoire ranging from renaissance to contemporary styles of music and prepares two principal concert programs each year. In addition to these principal concerts, TCE also sings at the annual Lantern Night, welcoming the newest class of undergraduate students to campus, at the Pittsburgh Treble Choral Festival in late October, and performs the national anthem prior to various Pitt sporting events. The Univeristy of Pittsburgh Treble Choral Ensemble has also served in past years as the model choir for the American Choral Directors Association’s Sweet Harmony Festival for girls, grades 6-9.
The choir holds numerous fundraisers to support the endeavors of the choir and is currently accepting donations. Please email pitttreblechoralensemble@gmail.com for more information.
Auditions for TCE are held during the first week of classes each Fall, and by appointment for the Spring semester. If you have questions about auditioning for the Treble Choral Ensemble, please email pitttreblechoralensemble@gmail.com, and our director at l.milovac@pitt.edu.
